Mendip Fire & Safety is owned and run by Stephen Wood covering Wells, Shepton Mallet, Glastonbury, Street and the whole of Somerset, the South West, Wales and the Midlands

I started my career qualifying as an electrician, after finishing my apprenticeship I worked within an electrical contracting company for a few years. I then changed direction seeking a new challenge, becoming a multi-skilled engineer, gaining my mechanical and PLC qualifications at college, enabling me to maintain and repair different types of machinery.

I found after several years that I missed working in different places and with different people, so I decided to take a role within Fire Protection Services, re-training as a fire alarm engineer progressing through the ranks to become a project engineer.

I then felt the time was right for me to start my own company, Wood Electrical, and offer my skills as a sub-contractor to other fire alarm companies, installing or commissioning mainly addressable systems. After ten years I believed the next progression was to start my own fire and safety company, Mendip Fire. I have set out to build a company that is focused solely on a great customer experience.

I continue to complete training on a regular basis for various new or updated products, IPAF and PASMA training and yearly I am required to carry out asbestos, working at height and manual handling courses, which are a part of our Safe contractor accreditation.

“I do what I do because I love it, I like the industry, I love the challenge, I love the people I meet. I like to talk shop and most of all I’d like to help you no matter how small or large your project.”

CCTV systems can be installed in your business premises or in your home which has increased in popularity. By using the latest systems you can help deter people targeting your premises and help prevent theft, vandalism and anti-social behaviour. CCTV provides a very visible deterrent to the opportunist and a high quality system increases the chances of catching criminals.

There are so many reasons for access control to be installed at your premises. First and foremost it allows you to control who has access to your building. Electronic access provides a convenient way of securing your building, restricting access to certain areas at certain times keeping clients and staff safe.

With a professional wireless security system, users can rest assured that their property is secure and their families, employees and customers are safeguarded. The PowerG-based security systems are well-proven in hundreds of thousands of homes and businesses around the world.

There are so many types of fire alarm systems installed today in premises that it is hard to keep up with them all and can be rather daunting for consumers to know what system they need. The first thing we recommend to a client is that they have a risk assessment carried out to determine the risk.

It is a legal requirement that all companies with 5 employees or more must produce a documented fire risk assessment.

If you are a landlord then it is now a legal requirement (from October 2015) to install smoke detectors for your tenants.

Emergency lighting is an essential part of your building premises which is often over looked and inferior products used. It shows you and your staff the escape route out of a building, preventing trips and falls and panic in an emergency. It can help you locate fire fighting equipment or a manual call point to raise the alarm in a fire situation.

We can maintain any nurse call system, big or small and are happy to provide a no obligation quote, after listening to your requirements and needs. We install quality nurse call systems that bring peace of mind to care providers, staff, residents and patients. Our systems help carers to carry out their daily duties, supporting your staff with flexible and easy to use equipment.
